Hi there. My name is Heather, also known as Angel, and I’m the owner of The Pug Snug in Great Barton near Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk. This has been my dream for years, and two and half years ago was given the chance to make my dream a reality. I have an extensive knowledge of pugs and 14 years of pug ownership under my belt. I’m very experienced in dealing with sick and disabled pugs and am very knowledgable in their traits and characteristics. My first pug was Flo-Flo who had multiple health issues but lived until the grand old age of 13. She was an amazing girl who was as tough as old boots despite everything, and a real diva! My third pug was a tiny girl called Betty who I adopted from the amazing PDWRA. I only had her for two months when she passed away unexpectedly. Betty was tiny but known as ‘The Boss’! She had a huge personality that made up for her tiny stature and nobody messed with Betty! She was in charge and that was that! I currently have one pug aged 10 called Blossom, who is very laid back, extremely friendly and has an incredibly long tongue! She is also a rescue and ex breeder and very much the mother hen with a beautiful soul. Basically, that's my little family and we look forward to welcoming you.
The idea of The Pug Snug was hatched in early February 2022, four months after my beloved Mother passed away. Whilst I was deep in grief, a dear and close friend of mine suggested my love and experience of pugs should become a business, and so 'The Pug Snug' was born! After 3 months of very hard work and endless regulations I was inspected by West Suffolk Council & was awarded a licence & a 4 Star Rating which I am very proud of. Fast forward two years and during my re-licensing I was awarded a 5 Star rating! I am fully licensed, insured, DBS checked and canine first aid trained as well as having a 5 Star rating to boot. We are set in a large home with a 1/3 of an acre beautiful gardens in the countryside of Great Barton near Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk. What more could your pugs or you ask for? Well, of course there is playtime on the Pug Castle, splashtime in the paddling pool, toytime with teddies and a tug of war, storytime when eyelids start to get heavy, puggy partytime if it’s a little ones birthday, cuddletime multiple times of the day and night, chill out time for relaxing pugs, and funtime 24/7. There is something for everypuggy to enjoy no matter what age or ability they happen to be.
When you lead a busy life, it is hard to leave your pugs alone or chose where they should go when you are away. This is where The Pug Snug comes in! You can rely on us to care for your pugs when you're at work or away on holiday, safe in the knowledge that they are in the very best of hands. They will be having fun, socialising, playing, exercising and probably napping in between too! There will be the odd pug party as well! Needless to say, you can rest easy, whether you have a hectic day at work or are tanning on the beach to concentrate on, your pug will be well taken care of.
We are always prepared for any pugs needs and ensure that your pug will receive the best care and love. Their happiness and care is our priority, and we strive to provide a service we would want our own pugs to receive. This is why I decided to open The Pug Snug, so we could offer a service like no other to pugs, and pug Mummy’s & Daddy’s! This includes any pugs with medical issues & disabilities. All pugs are welcome here. If walking is an issue, I have a lovely pug buggy all ready to go so your little one doesn’t miss out on fresh air and a wander. I have a vast experience of giving medications from having my own poorly pugs so this is something you will never have to worry about either. It’s all part of the service here at The Pug Snug.
We are located in the beautiful county of Suffolk in East Anglia about 45 minutes from the coast. So if you are thinking of having a holiday in the surrounding area or in the South of England, why not drop your pugs with us on the way for their holidays! It makes perfect sense!
If you are flying from Stansted, Luton or Norwich we are 50 minutes from Stansted Airport and about an hour and a half from Luton Airport and 45 minutes from Norwich Airport. If your flight happens to be one of those 'red eye' ones - contact us and we will see what we can do to make it easy for you to drop off/collect your pugs.
I am very proud to announce that I am now a Puglins Holiday Camp Associate and recommended site for the Southern region. Puglins has the wonderful reputation of providing the very best of holidays for pugs, and is well known within the pug community. I am very proud to have been chosen by Puglins to represent them. For more information about Puglins and to check out their other camps click on the link below.
I am so very proud, overwhelmed and excited to announce that The Pug Snug won 'Best Home Boarding Business Of The Year' at the Pet Industry Federation Awards held in Stoke On Trent on the 7th November 2024. When my name was called out as the winner, I was in total disbelief! It's going to take a while for it to sink in!
A wonderful black tie ball attended by around 350 fellow pet trade people, with a champagne reception, sit down gourmet meal and entertainment late into the night! PIF really know how to throw a party!
Although this award is in the name of 'The Pug Snug', it belongs to each and everyone of us. Every single one of the puggies and puggies crosses that I take care of and their pawrents are part of this win. Without you, your love, support and custom, there wouldn't be a Pug Snug, so this is as much of a win for my clients, furry and hooman, as it is for me!
We are delighted to have won the SME News UK Enterprise Awards 2023 Best Specialist Doggy Daycare & Boarding for East Anglia.
As a business that is just over a year old, I am overwhelmed at winning this award and know that The Pug Snug will keep on going from strength to strength!
I was so proud and delighted to have made the finals of The 2024 Suffolk Small Business Awards for the 'Service Small Business' award. Although I didn't win, to have been chosen as a finalist out of hundreds of businesses and the wonderful black tie evening itself, was an amazing experinece.
I am above and beyond proud that I have won this award. Being a lone woman in business is not an easy place to be a majority of the time. So, to be recognised for all I do in the Pug World and for my wonderful clients means everything to me. To say that I'm proud and overwhelmed would be an understatement!
Yesterday (Thursday 9th May 2024), we had our Animal Welfare Boarding and Daycare Licence Renewal Inspection. A lot of hard work goes into preparing for this as well as a lot of nerves and stress!
I am very happy and overwhelmed to say that The Pug Snug has been upgraded from 4 Stars to a wonderful
5 Stars by West Suffolk Council!
We are now taking bookings for 2025 and beyond! So, if you have a holiday in mind, then please do not hesitate to contact us either by email, message or phone to book your little ones in now!

I was both honoured and elated to have been contacted by the BBC, via a lovely lady called Maria, to take part in a live interview with the BBC News Channel. It was regarding the recent published paper (2022) that pugs are now considered 'Not the typical dog' due to their breeding and health conditions. I think you will find the interview interesting! Enjoy!

Well, what an incredible day we all had! Our first Open Day & to celebrate The Queen's Platinum Jubilee as well. The weather didn't start out the best, but that didn't dampen the mood of the visiting pugs or their Mummy's & Daddy's.
Lots of sniffs, exploring, zoomies, playing, cuddles, kisses, tummy tickles & fun was had by all the pugs that attended. New puggy friendships were formed & pawrents had a great time chatting, laughing & munching on cupcakes.
The sun came out for us & plenty of panting pugs continued to play & have fun in the sunshine whilst others lay in the grass to cool off.
A donation box was set up & a raffle held in aid of The Pug Dog Welfare and Rescue Association (PDWRA) which is a charity close to my heart. 1st prize was a £25 voucher against either doggy daycare or a stay, 2nd prize was a cuddly pug dressed in royal clothes & 3rd prize was two gorgeous mugs featuring Jubilee pugs made by Absolutely Barking. Altogether we raised £50 for the PDWRA, so well done everybody! Congratulations to Nicky Patel & Mel Irving for winning the raffle.
The day was a huge success & I want to thank everyone for coming along & supporting us at The Pug Snug, especially our new friends; Sid & Eddie, Hugo & Ted, Maggie, Jeffrey, Maddie, Bella & Monty, Doug & last but not least Alfie. Not forgetting their pawrents as well who apparently had something to do with bringing them along!

Please contact us if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Yes, absolutely! In fact I insist on meeting all pugs & their parent/s before they come to play or stay. It is also part of licensing regulations to have a 'Meet & Greet'. This is to get to know both your pug & you too & make sure that you are both happy with The Pug Snug before booking in. It also gives you a chance to chat through any questions or worries you may have & tell me all about your special little one/s & what they love to do. For any pugs staying over 3 nights, there will also be a 'Trial Night' (a stay of 24hrs overnight) which we will arrange prior to your pugs main holiday.
Absolutely, no doubt about it! Your little one/s will be treated like the puggy Prince or Princess that they are. They will live with me & my pug in my home as part of my family, which includes cuddle time, chatting away to each other, playing, wandering, treat time & general pug life living together. They will be treated as if they were my own.
No problem whatsoever! I’ve dealt with administering medication to pugs for the past 14 years, and I am more than happy to administer it to your little one too. Ensure you have the medicines with you with all the directions, and I will administer the medication as you would yourself to ensure your little one stays fit and healthy whilst with me.
Pugs are a very unique breed and generally thrive in the company of other pugs and pug crosses. They understand their own breed and recognise their snorting, that they don't have a 'regular muzzle' like other dogs, and have protruding eyes. This can be misread by other breeds, and therefore pugs do better with their own breed.
We are very experienced in dealing with pugs and their wonderful personalities and quirky traits as well as their potential health concerns and their day to day care.
Contact me right here on my website, by email, or by text message/whatsapp/phone to enquire about booking dates for holidays or daycare or arrange a 'Meet & Greet' and 'Trial Night' with you & your pug/s. If you have a special request or question, please do not hesitate to contact me & I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Thank you. With Pug Hugs. Heather.
